I’m raising funds in memory of Louis for Asthma Australia
Honouring our beautiful boy, Louis Gibson
Our Louis was a fun-loving, active boy with a real zest for life.
He had a quick wit, a brilliant sense of humour and a way of making friends wherever he went. He loved his family deeply and loved being part of his school community. He was happiest when he was playing footy or futsal, or when he was outdoors fishing and camping with us.
Louis’ asthma was considered mild and was well managed. However, in September 2024, our world changed forever when Louis tragically passed away from a severe asthma attack at just nine years old.
We are sharing Louis’ story as we want to raise awareness of childhood asthma and encourage parents and carers to recognise when symptoms may be getting worse and to seek help early. We also want to support better education in the community, so more people understand how serious asthma can be.
We have also learned more about thunderstorm asthma and how sudden, severe asthma attacks can be triggered during these events, even in people whose asthma is usually mild or well controlled. During some storms, tiny pollen particles from grasses can be carried in the wind and when breathed into the lungs, may trigger life-threatening asthma symptoms. We hope to help raise awareness of thunderstorm asthma to help other families be prepared.
Thank you for taking the time to remember our beautiful boy, and for helping us honour Louis’ life in a powerful and positive way.
