How funds raised make a difference
Despite the amazing progress with preventers and relievers, there’s still no cure for asthma. But every day, our researchers are getting closer to finding a cure. The money you raise today will fund vital research and education to help halve the number of avoidable hospitalisations from asthma by 2030. Thank you!
Could fund a free phone call to an Asthma Educator via 1800 ASTHMA (1800 278 462) where personalised information can provide life-changing support to people with asthma, their carers and health professionals.
Could go towards research into preventing and treating asthma. Our National Asthma Research Program is the country’s only program dedicated exclusively to asthma research.
Could go towards funding Air Smart - A public health promotion program that aims to educate and empower people with the information, tools and strategies required to minimise exposure to unhealthy air, reducing the substantial health impact.
Meet a Fundraiser
When Heath Wilson lost his mate Lenny Bingham to asthma, he wanted to raise awareness and much-needed funds for asthma education and research.
Heath was in his 20s when his mate and tennis coach Lenny died from an asthma attack.
“I knew he had asthma, but I didn’t realise it could kill you.”
Lenny was a tennis coach and would run an event for Heath and his mates called Coach's Day – a day of ten pin bowling, golf, and tennis. When Lenny passed away, Heath continued these Coach's Day, (and more recently Golf Days and dinners) to raise funds in honour of Lenny.
Raising funds for Asthma Australia has been eye-opening for Heath. “It has been really interesting; a lot of people would come support the dinners and the golf days and it would turn out that they or their kids have asthma, but I never knew that.” This is probably the reality for many people, with 1 in 9 Australians living with asthma every day.
