I’m getting breathless for asthma!

I’m challenging myself to 10 days straight of fitness activity because one of my boys has asthma and I also suffer from asthma every time I try to exercise. Every time I try to run, row, cycle or do any form of high intensity workouts, I am reaching for my puffer. Whenever my son goes out to play, he takes a puffer 10 minutes beforehand and also has to take a preventer puffer every morning and night.

  • Asthma is responsible for at least 1 Australian death every day and around 100 hospitalisations every day. Over 80% of these hospitalisations are considered potentially avoidable.
  • 1 in 9 Australians are directly impacted by asthma, with children being the most impacted.

“An Asthma Educator really changed my life. I have never in my life been more well than I am now, due to that call I made to Asthma Australia. Can’t recommend them highly enough. I learned more in that 40 minute chat than I have in my lifetime.”

Practice Run and a quick little descrption of cardio for me

Monday 19th Aug
Today I attempted a practice run on the treadmil before an ABTs class tonight. I got 300m in 1 minute 46 seconds and had to stop for my puffer before I continued and did a further 200m in 1 minute 16 seconds.
Having not attempted a run for a while, this was a struggle for me as I do struggle to breathe with some cardio based exercises.
Often I prefer to skip (jump rope) instead, it gets the heart rate going without the exertion on my lungs.  I have done some "lung sprint" training in the past and that was difficult but I felt better for it in the end.
ABTs class is Abs, Butts and Thighs. There was a little bit of cardio with a weighted sled push (20-30m). We also had a lot of crunches, sit ups, squats, hip thrusts and more squats. With bands and weights, my legs are going to be sore tomorrow but I want to try and do another run for practice.

Thanks for checking out my page and reading this far! Much appreciated.
